Keep Your Tokens of Emotions Nearby – Always

Emotions

Your emotions are your secret weapons behind being able to complete the goals you have for yourself, whether they were given to you by another (e.g. a work deadline, a medical/prescription regimen, etc.) or whether they were given to you by yourself (e.g. choosing to learn a new language, strategizing how to get a prospective love to notice you, etc.). They are more influential in your success then you realize. Keep them near you, in your mind, in your sights so you ensure to use them as often as possible and thereby maximize your chances of success, as well as your speed of completion.

Imagine trying to drive a car with no gas in it. Imagine trying to eat a meal with no food before you. Imagine trying to drink a cup of water with no water in it. Trying to do any of these would be absurd. That is precisely what you would be doing if you ever left emotion out of the equation when trying to accomplish any of your goals, e.g. those examples above. Indeed, emotion is that powerful; it is that important; it is that necessary in acquiring your goals.

The below questions help further illustrate this point. The answer to all the questions is simple, it is only one word.

  • What is the drive for learning?

  • Why is the maxim “Where there is a will, there is a way” applicable to doing anything?

  • What is the most powerful motivator for athletes to continue in their training and competitions?

  • What makes a person able to overcome horrendous obstacles of racism, sexism, threats of physical violence when trying to elevate his/her life even when faced with people of great power and opposition?

Emotion. Simple, yet powerful.

To learn something we must have a desire to learn it. Emotion is the driving force behind our desire to learn something. If we have that emotion then we have that desire. If we have that desire then we have that will (“Where there is a will there is a way”). Emotion is what pushes athletes to continue and excel in their trainings and competitions. It is the fuel behind the constant victories from fights (sometimes mental, sometimes physical, sometimes verbal) a person has with seemingly overwhelming negative forces.

With this powerful ally, force, energy available to us, used by us everyday, we are still not immune to defeat in our endeavors. Why so? Because while emotion is the secret weapon in our arsenal against all obstacles in those endeavors, it is also a fading weapon. Without constant replenishment of our emotion which drives us to complete those endeavors we can know repeated failure all too well.

Just as with the previous examples regarding gas, food and water our emotion that creates and perpetuates our drive to do something must always be replenished, the more often the better. Keeping your emotion fresh, powerful and in the front of your mind is what grants you the victories you desire: meeting that work deadline, taking that medicine to avoid further ailments or death, becoming fluent in your chosen language, becoming the preferred object of attention of that prospective love.

For example, when fighters train or walk to the ring for a bout they blast their favorite, most energizing song. This allows them to create, build up and perpetuate their emotion so they become more powerful, so they are energized to the fullest extent. No fighter trains and walks to the ring while having slow tempo music or elevator music being blasted as it would create a disconnect in the desired outcome (charging the fighter up with fast and powerful energy).

As another example, when a lanky person decides to become a bodybuilder one common thing to do is to place pictures of bodybuilders all across every room possible where that person frequents. This is so there is a constant reminder and push to envision him/herself as the completed product, i.e. the bodybuilder, and to remind him/herself to get into the shape needed to become a bodybuilder.

As a final example, when an aspiring business magnate wants to become a business magnate one of the techniques used is to buy an entire wardrobe of professional business suits to wear. These will help to place the mentality of that person in a heightened state of being able to learn business so he/she can become as successfully minded and even as cunning as a business magnate. Another technique is to change his/her speech to include business terminology when speaking in everyday conversation, in order to also place the mentality of that person in a heightened state of being able to speak in business terms. Another technique is to rent out empty board rooms and work in them on the large whiteboards and brainstorm so to get a feel for the atmosphere and place the mentality of that person in a heightened state of feeling and acting like a business magnate.

So, if the fighters use music to replenish and perpetuate their emotions, and aspiring bodybuilders use pictures, and aspiring business magnates use clothes and terminology or speech, which of these tokens is most powerful? Which is more successful? The answer is both all of them and none of them. It is not the token that is important, but the connection you have with them that makes them powerful.

To illustrate the fighter example, Person A may feel music is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train and prepare before a bout as a fighter. Person B may feel videos of admired, more successful fighters is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train and prepare before a bout as a fighter. Person C may feel music is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train and prepare before a bout as a fighter. Person D may feel an old-fashioned gym is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train and prepare before a bout as a fighter.

To illustrate the bodybuilder example, Person A may feel pictures is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train as a bodybuilder. Person B may feel videos is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train as a bodybuilder. Person C may feel an old-fashioned gym is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train as a bodybuilder.

To illustrate the business magnate example, Person A may feel meetings with other aspiring business magnates is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train as a successful business magnate. Person B may feel books is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train as a business magnate. Person C may feel empty board rooms to work in and brain storm is the best token, the best driver of emotion to help him/her train as a business magnate.

The point is that the token does not matter. One token may be useful to one person but not to another. Another token may be best for one person but not the best for another. The connection each person has with a token is what matters. If Person Z truly feels eating buttered popcorn with raisins is the best driver of emotion to help him/her accomplish the goal then that is the token which should be used in his/her endeavor. If Person Y truly feels smelling peppermint candy is the best driver of emotion to help him/her accomplish the goal then that is the token which should be used in his/her endeavor.

What you are doing with the token is creating and raising your emotions to be able to put yourself in that environment of whatever is in sync with your goal. A token of training inside an old 1920s style gym used by a fighter who gets the most emotion from that token is what puts that fighter into a mental environment of successful, powerful fighters. A token of pictures strewn all across the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and gym constantly viewed by a lanky person who gets the most emotion from that token is what puts that lanky person into a mental environment of successful, powerful bodybuilders. A token of an empty board room to work in, draw Venn diagrams on a large whiteboard and brainstorm by an aspiring business magnate who gets the most emotion from that token is what puts that aspiring business magnate into a mental environment of successful, powerful business magnates.

So, essentially, by using tokens of emotion what you are actually doing is putting yourself already in the state of winning. You are putting yourself in the state, or environment, or world, or, if you are inclined towards the quantum physics Copenhagen Theory of multiple worlds, you are putting yourself in the universe of winning. The fighter makes him/herself match the characteristics of the music so he/she becomes fast and powerful just like the fast and powerful beats of the music. The lanky person makes him/herself match the characteristics of the bodybuilding pictures so he/she becomes bulky, muscular and defined. It is important that you are putting yourself already in the desired environment, not in an environment of aspiration, or future success, but an environment of already having or being that success. Just as with any athlete, you must see and feel yourself in the environment of already making the goal. Just as with any singer, you must hear and feel yourself in the environment of already hitting that musical note of that song.

These are the foundational principles behind the mandate for using emotion everyday in being successful in your endeavors. The tokens are what bring about your emotions which drive the success of your endeavors. For this reason, you must ensure to keep them near you, in your mind, in your sights so you ensure to use them as often as possible and thereby maximize your chances of success, as well as your speed of completion.
